There is nothing better than comfort food. And one of the most delicious comfort foods out there are Swedish meatballs. And without the shadow of a doubt, the creamy sauce for Swedish meatballs recipe is what makes this comfort food recipe so comfy. The sauce for Swedish meatballs is an easy to make rich and hearty sauce. It's sure to bring coziness and delight to you, your friends and your family.

Ingredients

Swedish Meatball Ingredients:

  • 1 lb or 500g Ground Beef

  • 1 tbsp Parsley Chopped

  • 1/4 cup or 33g Bread Crumbs

  • 1/4 tsp Allspice

  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1/4 cup or 33g Onion Chopped

  • 1 Egg

  • Salt and Pepper to Taste

 

Swedish Meatball Sauce Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp or 75g Butter

  • 3 tbsp or 38g Flour

  • 2 cups or 500ml Beef Stock or Brown Veal Stock

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1/2 tbsp Soy Sauce

  • 1 cup or 250ml Heavy Cream

  • 1/4 tsp Mustard Powder

  • Salt and Pepper to Taste

  • 2 tbsp Parsley Chopped

Preparation

1.To make the meatballs: add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix with your hands or a spatula. (optional) sauté the onions and garlic. You can also soak the bread crumbs in 1/8 cup of cream.


2.Sauté the meatballs in a pan with vegetable oil until golden brown and cooked through, and remove them from the pan.


3.Degrease the pan, leaving all the bits and pieces. Add butter and melt over medium heat. Then add flour, mix and scrape the bottom of the pan to release the bits and pieces of meatballs. Cook for 2 minutes and add the beef stock. Use a flat bottom spatula to scrape the bottom of the pan. Then add the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, heavy cream, mustard powder, stir and bring to a simmer over low to medium heat until the sauce coats the back of a spoon.


4.Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Then you're ready to serve alongside the meatballs, or you can add the meatballs to the pan and simmer.
